The Ministry of Development and Investments has kicked-off the countdown to launch the e-consumer platform that will allow real-time digital comparisons of market prices from supermarkets.

Tuesday, November 12, 2019

According to information, by the end of November 2019, no later than December, the ministry will present the platform to the general public, giving consumers the opportunity to obtain their daily shopping through automatic calculations of the cost of the basket of their choice at the lowest possible prices. The ministry will attempt to shape a new interactive way of competition between the supermarket chains, in order to push for lower prices on everyday necessities.

According to the same information, through the "e-consumer" as the name is “Pricing data for 700 to 1,000 consumer goods codes will be initially analyzed, and in the second year the number of products will exceed 1,700”. Price calculations, in any case, will compare more products than listed by the Greek Statistics Organization (ELSTAT). Price comparisons will be made to let the consumer know which supermarket in the area sells cheaper the products they wish to buy.

The information to be hosted will also relate to offers of certain products per day that will perform by the supermarkets. The retailers with chains of stores will also provide information for fuel and diesel prices (the platform will "snap" the ministry database for liquid fuels). Orders to the supermarkets will not be permitted.
